And there have been four.
Following the Astros shelled the Rays to complete the divisional series, the Yankees, Cardinals and Nationals join Houston at Major League Baseballs last four. Even the National League Championship Series kicks off tonight from Busch Stadium in which a few NLDS underdogs kick off the Best-of-Seven series.
We have not been getting much in terms of results of a few of the earlier slates using our postseason selections, so lets see if we can get our weekend started on the right foot and cross the cash line with the single-game slate of tonight!
MVP — Juan Soto (WAS) — $7,500 vs. STL
If you would like to include the NL Wild Card game against the Brewers, the Nationals have played rounds of postseason baseball, and Soto has broken hearts of opposing fans in every single round to this point. After an eighth-inning two-run single (three scored thanks to an error) in the Wild Card game, Soto tied Game 5 of the NLDS with a monster home run from future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw, following teammate Anthony Rendons burst on the last pitch. Not only is the baseball world shocking in the age of 20, but hes already a proven postseason performer through his first six playoff games of his career. Add this up and then Soto hit .273 with a .930 OPS up to now in these game involving two homers, six RBI, four runs scored and three strikes over six games. Tonight Soto and the Nationals will take on right-hander Miles Mikolas who was better at home than on the road in the regular season. But, Ill put that aside and concentrate on the fact that Soto published a huge .303 ISO, 1.000 OPS, .414 wOBA and 155 wRC+ to the season against right-wing pitching with very similar numbers on the street against righties. Hes also a double in his career against Mikolas and 3 with a homer. Hes been white-hot and that I want double his points tonight.
All-Star — Howie Kendrick (WAS) — $5,500 vs. STL
The burst of soto tied the match, but it was Kendrick who shattered Dodgers Nations hearts since the infielder crushed a 10th-inning grand slam that hit at the Nationals ticket with the Cardinals into this NLDS matchup. Kendrick has made some errors on defense at the series and also his bat was fairly quiet throughout the series also, however he silenced everything with that long run to dead-center area and I believe his bat can warm up from here and I will look to find extra value from him at this cost and in 1.5x his points since the All-Star in this lineup. I mean, lets be mindful this guy had. Sure lefties were mashed by him and his very best work came in the home. But he hit .327 with a .221 ISO, .930 OPS, .385 wOBA along with 136 wRC+ against righties. Additionally, he posted a .211 ISO, .838 OPS, .345 wOBA and 110 wRC+ against righties on the road this year. That grand slam came on the road against a righty from the Dodgers Joe Kelly. And perhaps most importantly, is that the fact that Kendrick has absolutely owned Mikolas within their history against one another. The veteran has now gone 8 for 11 (.727) with a home run and a triple against Mikolas. I am pretty sure I will take that along with the job hes done the work he is submitted against pitching also and complete this year.
UTIL — Anthony Rendon (WAS) — $9,500 vs. STL
I mean, regardless of where his possession degree resides, it really, really tricky to depart Rendon out of any Nationals pile now. Of course hed make for some great MVP or even All-Star, however with Kendrick in that area we can find some enormous worth if he had been to out-perform Rendon, and his work against Mikolas, its entirely possible. Still, once the Nationals needed a calming presence in their lineup will them back to against the Dodgers, it was Rendon who began it with a solo bomb off of Kershaw to deliver the Nationals within a single before Soto tied it up on the very next pitch. It was Rendon who set the Dodgers with a double in the 10th to put runners on third and second, forcing an intentional walk of Soto and the burst from Kendrick about the ropes. I mean, the season this guy has is going to make him a paycheque that this offseason as a free agent. He crushed pitching from each side of the plate, posting a .320 typical, .271 ISO, .996 OPS, .411 wOBA and 153 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. He handled similar splits on the street against righties as well, so theres no way Im leaving him out of the Nationals tonight.
UTIL — Matt Carpenter (STL) — $5,500 vs. WAS
Carpenter hasnt really been able to perform his way into the Braves lineup consistently at those playoffs and if he did get a start in Game 5 he walked in his lone at-bat before being eliminated for a defensive replacement as a result of the Cardinals building a whopping 10-run direct in the first inning. The truth is, as hes more than competent despite enduring at 2019 Im waiting for this guy to unload onto something. After restarting a 36 home run last year and posting a .266 ISO, Carpenters generation dropped to 15 homers and a .166 ISO to go along with a .315 wOBA along with 95 wRC+. His numbers against righties were solid from a power standpoint using a .177 ISO and also .737 OPS, but he finally fell below league average against righties too. Having said that, I really do like the fact that Carpenter appreciated the month of the season in September leading up into those playoffs when he struck for a .233 ISO, .866 OPS, .364 wOBA along with 127 wRC+. He homeredin just two of his final three regular season competitions but managed to log only nine plate appearances once he posted a good .748 OPS thanks to 3 walks. He did knock in three runs in that moment. To put it simply, give us a few quality value at possible possession in this one and I am searching to run tonight.
UTIL — Paul DeJong (STL) — $7,000 vs. WAS
Completing our lineup and Cardinals mini-stack is DeJong who is a tiny bit of a deserted guy sitting all of the way down the Cardinals lineup at eighth in the batting order, but he is definitely more than capable of conducting into a while I like his stolen base upside as nicely after stealing nine bases in the regular season in addition to his own career-high 30 home runs. The great news is that reverse-splits were sported by DeJong in the time as the right-handed-hitting shortstop hit pitching better than hed lefties. While 24 of his 31 doubles came against a righty against righties, 27 were of his 30 home runs. Add this up and then DeJong posted a.228 ISO, .783 OPS, .329 wOBA along with 104 wRC+ from righties from the regular season. Now, while six of his nine steals came against a righty, that he was caught stealing five occasions with a righty, great for a bad 54.5% victory rate. As he allowed 15 of them this year, Nevertheless, Sanchez is among those mor targetable pitchers in the big leagues for stolen bases. Thats a lot. He also allowed 16 in 136.2 innings last season. Because of this, he gets some stolen base upside down this one. Finally, DeJong has gone 2 for 5 with a homer and a double therefore Im enjoying that which he could bring to this table from a cross-category standpoint tonight.
